| Since
the Workshop held in Beijing, the Asia-Pacific Conference on
Multilateral Cooperation in Space Technology and Applications
(APC-MCSTA), held every year, has become a very important part
of AP-MCSTA Initiative. The first APC-MCSTA was held in Bandkok,
Thailand in January,1994. In the light of the Recommendations
of the Conference, the Preparatory Committee for the Asia-Pacific
Space Cooperation Mechanism (the PREP-COM for APSCOM), composed
of high-level representatives from the governments of 10 countries,
was established. The Secretariat of the PREP-COM is based in
Beijing, China. The 10contries include Australia, Bangladesh,
China, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Mongolia, Pakistan,
Russia, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The mission of the PREP-COM
is to make recommendations for the establishment of Asia-Pacific
space cooperation institution for technological cooperation
in peaceful use and exploration of space resources, including
interalia such aspects as its nature, mission, structure, finance
and law etc.. |
