The
6th Asia Pacific Conference on Multilateral Cooperation in
Space Technology and Applications (6th APC-MCSTA) was successfully
held in Beijing from September, 2001. Nearly 200 representatives
from Bangladesh, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Iran,
Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan,
Thailand, United Kingdom, United States of America and the
United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UN/OOSA), United
Nations Economic and Social Council for Asia Pacific (UN/ESCAP)
participated in the Conference. Representatives approved the
Proposal for promoting space technology applications to implement
the Recommendation of the UNISPACE III and to maintain regional
sustainable economic development.
The
representatives urged that priority should be given to the
space technology and applications of the countries in Asia-Pacific
region as well as other countries and regions to strengthen
the training to the management staff of space organizations,
the experts of research and development department, and
the professionals of application section in developing countries,
to boost up the space capabilities among the countries,
to reduce the lost caused by duplication of construction
and lacking of experience, and to promote the space technology
and applications serving economic construction. With the
international cooperation and information sharing, countries
will get mutual benefit in the areas of remote sensing applications,
disaster mitigation, environment protection, communications
and navigation.
In
order to promote the AP-MCSTA initiatives, and utilize the
space technology to serve the development of regional economy
and social development, China National Space Administration
(CNSA) and the Secretariat of AP-MCSTA will jointly organize
the 3rd Training Course of Space Technology and Remote Sensing
Applications in Environment Monitoring and Disaster Mitigation
from July 11 to August 10, 2003. This Training Course will
be also co-sponsored by UN/OOSA and UN/ESCAP. The responsible
entity will be the Center for Space Science and Technology
Education in Asia and Pacific (Prep.). A 50-student class
will be organized.
The
3rd Training Course will focus on remote sensing data processing
and applications in the fields of disaster management, environment
protection, urban planning, resources investigation etc.
The introduction of remote sensing satellite system/subsystem
design, principle and examples of remote sensing equipment
design, images receiving system, image processing theory
and practice, and the practice on sun-synchronous orbit
satellite mission design using software of mission design
and image processing will also be introduced. In addition,
the students will have the opportunity to practice the images
processing technology and mission analysis/design under
the instruction of experts.
Besides
the academic lectures, the Training Course will also include
technical visits to some space research and application
institutes and facilities in China for more comprehensive
understandings to space technology and its applications.
CNSA
and the Secretariat of AP-MCSTA welcome countries in Asia-Pacific
region that are interested in sending trainees for the participation
in this Training Course.
