Starting from 1994, the AP-MCSTA held seven Conferences in Thailand, Pakistan,
Republic of Korea, Bahrain, Iran, China and Thailand successively. Through
these conferences, cooperation and communication in the Asia- Pacific region
have been expanded, mutual understanding and confidence enhanced and a sound
cooperative relationship formed.
In July 2001, the AP-MCSTA Secretariat was established in Beijing according to
the proposal of the Seventh Asia-Pacific Conference on Multilateral Cooperation
in Space Technology and Applications. The mandate of the Secretariat was to
facilitate programs of multilateral space cooperation in the Asia-Pacific
region and promote the institutionalization of AP- MCSTA.
In November 2003, official delegations from nine Asia-Pacific countries
attended the Meeting of the Drafting Group of the APSCO Convention in Beijing
in which the text of the Convention was finalized.
In January 2004, the AP-MCSTA Secretariat sent copies of the Convention to
those countries that had participated in the negotiations for their approval of
signing and ratifying the Convention.
