The multilateral cooperation of Asia-Pacific countries in the space field has
scored significant achievements with the joint efforts of participating
countries.
The programs of multilateral cooperation in space technology and its
applications in Asia-Pacific region have been carried out progressively. The
Small Multi-Mission Satellite program, participated by China, Iran, Mongolia,
Pakistan, Republic of Korea, Thailand and Bangladesh, has entered the
development stage and is expected to be launched in 2007. Moreover, initial
success has been achieved in the expansion of applications of the space
technology in remote sensing, disaster mitigation, environmental protection and
other fields.
Education and training on space technology and applications have produced wide
impact. Starting from 2000, the AP-MCSTA Secretariat, in cooperation with the
China National Space Administration, has held five training courses on space
technology and remote sensing application for government officials and
technicians from Asia-Pacific countries. About 200 trainees from more than 30
countries attended the courses. Such efforts have effectively facilitated the
improvement of these countries'capability in space technology and its
applications.
